Udaipur

Where is Udaipur?

Udaipur is situated in the southern province of Rajasthan, where the Aravali Range separates the city from the stretches of the Thar Desert. This scenic city was established by Maharana Udai Singh II. The term Udaipur means the realm of sunrise. Dotted with numerous silvery lakes and royal forts, a visit to Udaipur is always a grand affair. British administrator James Tod quoted that Udaipur is the "most romantic spot on the continent of India".

What is it famous for?

Udaipur is famous for its collection of lakes and is known as the “City of Lakes” or the "Venice of the East", owing to the bountiful presence of the water bodies. Fateh Sagar Lake, Lake Pichola, Swaroop Sagar Lake & Doodh Talai Lake are some of the most famous ones. The Udaipur City Palace encompasses a group of royal palaces, emerald gardens, and heritage museums that offer a vivid glimpse of the glorious past. Lake Pichola is artificially constructed, with a royal hotel right in the middle of the magnificent water body.
